Enhancing your tasks with notes
Notes are a fantastic way to add more context to your tasks. Whether you want to jot down bullet points, meeting notes, links, or a full-blown brainstorm, notes have got you covered. Notes can also be shared with tasks, making collaboration easier.
Adding notes
Adding a note to a task

To add a note to the task you are currently viewing, click the Notes action button.
- Find the Notes action button.
- Clicking it will take you to a separate notes page for that task.
- Start typing. Your notes will be saved automatically.
Alternatively press the "n" key when you have no tasks selected.
Adding a note to a subtask
Adding a note to a subtask follows a similar process:
- Locate the subtask you want to add a note to.
- Click the menu icon on the right of the subtask, then select Notes.
- You'll be taken to the notes page for that subtask.
- Type your notes. All changes are saved automatically.
Alternatively press the "n" key when you have the subtask selected.
Viewing and editing notes

When a note has been added to a task, a note icon appears on the task. Similarly, if a note has been added to a subtask, the icon appears next to the subtask title.
- Clicking on the note icon or Notes button will take you to the notes page for that task
- Make any necessary changes and your edits are saved automatically
Formatting notes

Notes use a rich markdown editor. You can write normally, add headings and lists, create task lists, add links, and switch to raw markdown when you want more control.
dypt can also recognise task links in your notes, so you can connect written context back to specific tasks.
Note templates

Templates help you start from a useful structure instead of a blank page. You can use built-in templates, create your own, or ask AI to suggest a template based on the note you are writing.
Templates can be appended to your existing note or used to replace the current note content.
AI for notes

You can use AI from the notes page to:
- clean up your writing
- suggest or create useful note templates
- extract action items from a note into tasks
Each AI note action uses 1 AI action from your monthly allowance.
Deleting Notes
To delete a note:
- Navigate to the notes page of the task or subtask
- Click on the "Clear notes" button
- You'll be prompted to confirm your decision. Once confirmed, the note will be deleted permanently
Alternatively press the "del" or "backspace" keys when the text area is out of focus (i.e. you're not typing in it - you can press "esc" to exit the text area).
Navigating to tasks
There are two ways to navigate away from the notes page:
Back to the previous page:
- Click the "Back" button in the top left of the notes page
Alternatively press the "←" key when the text area is out of focus
Go to the associated task page:
- Click the "Go to task" button in the top left of the notes page
Alternatively press the "↑" key when the text area is out of focus
Sharing Notes
When you share a task, the associated notes are shared along with it, providing extra value and context to anyone who duplicates your shared tasks.
You can also link a user directly to the notes page of a task by copying the URL of the notes page.
If another user chooses to copy your task, they can select whether to include notes or not.
Privacy
Notes are opt-in and entirely under your control. They are private by default and only become public when you share a task.
