Public task sharing

What's public task sharing?

Public Task Sharing is a feature that allows you to make any of your tasks public for others to see, appreciate, and even duplicate into their own dypt account. It works both ways, so you can also discover and copy tasks from other users.

Making a task public

share a task

To share a task publicly, click on the 'Share' button from the drop down menu next to the task or via the edit task menu and select 'Manage' from the 'Public sharing' section.

Upon hitting 'Start Sharing', a shareable link will be generated which you can copy and share with others.

Anyone with the link will be able to view the task and its subtasks, they don't need to have a dypt account to view it. Share your creations on social media or send them to your friends and family.

Need to know

If you make a task public, any subtasks underneath it will also become publicly available

Identifying publicly shared tasks

When viewing a task, you can easily identify if it's a shared task by the purple 'Shared' icon that appears:

  • 'shared' means the task has been shared directly
  • 'parent shared' means the task is a subtask of a shared task

Clicking the 'Share' button again will tell you if the task is publicly shared or not.

Stop publicly sharing a task

If you change your mind, you can make a task private again at any time by clicking the 'Stop Sharing' button.

If it's a subtask of a shared task, you need to stop sharing the parent task first. Alternatively, move the task to a different parent task that isn't shared.

Discovering publicly shared tasks

share a task

Explore shared tasks from other users for inspiration, how to guides, productivity hacks, recipes and much more.

After logging in, you can copy any shared task to your own dypt account by clicking 'copy'.

Copying shared tasks works the same way as copying your own tasks, you can choose which properties to copy and where to copy it to.

See the docs on copying a task.

Examples of publicly shared tasks

Here are a few examples of shared tasks to get you started:

Private task sharing

What's private task sharing?

Private Task Sharing is a feature that allows you to privately collobarate on your tasks with those you trust. You can share tasks with anyone you like and choose the level of access they have. Anyone can accept an invitation to a private task, but initial sharing of a task is a premium feature available to pro and vip subscribers. Pro users can share each task between 5 users, and VIP users can share each task between 10 users.

Privately sharing a task

share a task

To share a task privately, click on the 'Share' button from the drop down menu next to the task or via the edit task menu and select 'Manage' from the 'Private sharing' section.

You will be taken to the private sharing screen where you can invite others to share the task with you.

Invite someone to the task by pressing the invite button. On the next screen you can enter their dypt username or email address. If they don't have a dypt account, they will be sent an email inviting them to create one.

Next select the level of access you want to give them:

  • View - they can view the task and its subtasks but can't make any changes
  • View & Edit - they can view and edit the task and its subtasks
  • Custom - they can view, and you can choose which properties they can edit

Upon hitting 'Invite user', an email will be sent to the person you invited. They will be able to accept the invitation from the email or from the 'Invites' dialog that will appear green when they log in in the dypt header.

Need to know

Clicking the 'Share' button again will tell you how many users the task is shared with and if there are any pending invites for the task.

Stop privately sharing a task

If you change your mind, you can change who you share a task with at any time.

You can see who you've invited to the task and their level of access in the 'Users' section of the private sharing screen.

You can change a users permissions or remove them from the task to stop sharing with them by clicking the gear icon next to their name.

You can also cancel any pending invites by clicking the cross icon next to a users name or email.

If it's a subtask of a shared task, you need to stop sharing the parent task first. Alternatively, move the task to a different parent task that isn't shared.

Invitations

When someone invites you to a task, you will receive an email inviting you to join the task. You can accept the invitation from the email or from the 'Invites' button that will appear green when you have new invites (located at the top of the dypt home page).

Clicking the link to the invite from the email or from the 'Invites' button will take you to the invite page for that task where you can accept or decline the invitation. You can also see who invited you and the level of access they have given you.

Click 'Accept' to accept the invitation and be taken to the task. You will now be able to view and edit the task and its subtasks (depending on the level of access you were given).

Click 'Decline' to decline the invitation. You will not be able to view or edit the task or its subtasks and the inviting user will be notified.

Viewing tasks shared with you

On the shared tasks page, an info pill will display telling you who shared the task with you. Click on it to see a dialog which details who has access to the task and your level of access.

You will see different action buttons in accordance with your level of access.

Ensuring privacy

Your privacy is our priority

Task sharing is completely opt-in. Nothing is shared without your explicit permission. Sharing a task doesn’t make your entire account public, just the tasks you choose and any subtasks underneath them.
